One Good Sentence

A One-day Composition and Grammar Workshop for Teachers and Tutors

"All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you know." (Earnest Hemingway, "A Moveable Feast.").

Great writing begins with one good sentence. The One Good SentenceÔ  workshop demonstrates that when students learn to write that one good sentence, they develop strong written expression skills, marked by accurate grammar and punctuation. Students whose writing instruction focuses on the ability to write one good sentence transition, effortlessly and fearlessly, from one good sentence to forceful, dynamic writing in any format (expository, narrative, descriptive, or creative). Confident and fearless, students taught this approach become A students in college composition classes and communicative, effective adult writers.

Topics covered:

  • Sentence structure: what it is and why it's important
  • The four sentence structure types
  • Sentence structure expansion techniques
  • Sentence expansion and parts of speech
